This Calgary group has developed a field-trip program that utilizes the Weaselhead natural area and ties directly into the Grade 8 science curriculum. Students gain an understanding of the concept of a watershed, the variety of life in wetlands and indicators of water quality while learning how to be caretakers of the environment. The program continues to provide a truly authentic outdoor learning experience.
Ecotrust funding support helped with research and development, subsidized bussing costs for high-needs schools and facilitated program delivery.
"The students loved being in contact with the water and the (aquatic invertebrate) insect hunting….we almost had to pull them onto the next location.” -Special Education Junior High teacher
