Student and Community Water Quality Monitoring
Funded in 2001 and 2002 RiverWatch is a program that gets students, and now citizens, out on local waterways to learn more about water quality issues.

Riverwatch - Beyond Books Institute The Community Watershed Monitoring Outreach project addressed a concern for the health of the local watersheds in some communities in Southern Alberta. RiverWatch provided high quality and enjoyable training to community members, emphasizing important themes and issues in water quality.
About 4,000 students yearly in both Calgary and Edmonton actively participate in RiverWatch programs that involve river rafting, water quality monitoring, data analysis and issue awareness. An Ecotrust grant has allowed the group to expand their program to accommodate 1000 additional students annually and to modify their program to better fit the amended Alberta science curriculum for Grades 8 and 9.
