The Power of Silence
I've gotta get off this roller coaster !!!!

Your morning starts off with an early breakfast meeting, planning out the next marketing communication to your customers. Straight from there, you are off to see the production manager to discuss the progress of your largest customer order. The rest of the morning finds you catching up on phone messages, emails and reading the latest sales reports.
Lunch is another meeting with one of your suppliers pitching their latest line of products. Returning from lunch you have another three meetings with key staff to discuss everything from their departmental progress to personnel issues to the upcoming Christmas party.Sometime after 6 p.m. you leave the office to get home in time for dinner with your significant other and the kids. The next several hours fly by in family discussion, homework assistance and house related duties. Finally around 9 p.m. you have some time to catch up on email and respond to any new urgent requests.
Whether this is a typical day for you or not, most of us are tied up with this 'stuff' that consumes almost every waking moment. When the time finally comes to put your feet up, you turn on the TV or the radio, maybe pick up a fiction book and let your mind be entertained. After all, we are too tired to do anything else.
Day after day, month after month, year after year, all of a sudden we look back and say in the words of David Byrne of Talking Heads -
And you may ask yourself
What is that beautiful house?
And you may ask yourself
Where does that highway go?
And you may ask yourself
Am I right? ...am I wrong?
And you may tell yourself
My god!...what have I done?
We find ourselves so caught up in the 'doing' of life that we forget what we are really about.
We need to take regular time for ourselves, to sit quietly, undisturbed. To just 'Be'. To let all the noise of our lives fall away and get to our own essence, to our own soul. This is a time to remember why we are doing what we are doing.
There are countless books and gurus who tell us that we need to take this time every day. And yet, it is so difficult for most of us to get into a regular routine of doing this.
I personally have found that as I practice this more faithfully, I receive more and more benefit. I have found that if I take some time in the morning and at the end of the day to meditate about a particular challenge, the answer comes to me some time during the next hours or day without me having to think about it. In fact, the thinking about it often gets in the way. I am amazed at the wonderful things that seemingly come to me when I just quietly - let them come.
This is an absolutely crucial thing for you to do in your business as well as in your personal life. There are many sources of how to accomplish this 'balance activity' and I include a couple of suggested sources below. I only wish to encourage you to take some regular time for yourself to sit in silence and allow yourself 'To Be' without the noise and distractions of your daily life.
You might be really amazed at the results!
