Active Environmental uses low-impact seismic lines

Traditionally labeled a role for large oil and gas operators, support for environmental initiatives is moving, albeit slowly, onto the agendas of individual and small business philanthropists.  As global citizens we are increasingly aware that the health of our environment affects us all and environmental stewardship is everyone’s responsibility.

We’re proud to recognize a few leaders from a lesser-known sector who, early on, recognized that they are important players in the overall effort to create positive environmental change and safeguard healthy communities for the future. Read more about how Active Environmental Services Ltd., Newalta Corporation, and Komex International Ltd. are working with Ecotrust to make a difference.

New community grants

The Sturgeon River offers an immediate and easy to get to source of aquatic life for studies.

Alberta Ecotrust is pleased to announce this spring's grant recipients. In total, $137,370 was distributed among the thirteen new projects, bringing the total dollars distributed since 1992 to over $3.4 million. Congratulations to our grantees!  See our attached chart  or summary of grant profiles for more details.

Featured projects: Global Forest Watch Canada and BLESS.

Preliminary needs assessment results are in!

The results of the “Understanding the Environmental Landscape of Albertaresearch commissioned by Alberta Ecotrust will help determine the environmental issues that are most important to Albertans and assess the capacity needs of environmental groups in Alberta. Click here to read more about the research, preliminary results and how Ecotrust plans to inform our funding program with the results.

Environment week at Ecotrust

Environment week is always a busy time for Alberta Ecotrust staff and volunteers as we join other stewards of environmental and sustainable practice in engaging the public. On top of riding, walking or busing to work as part of the Calgary Commuter Challenge, we were fortunate to be included in a number of events happening in
Calgary and had the opportunity to share the Ecotrust story with a few more folks. Read more about the Canadian Environmental Awards 2004; Nexen letter and lunch campaign and the imagineCALGARY Sustainability Summit.
