June 14, 2006, Vancouver – Rockwater Properties announced today that it has launched the 1st luxury oceanfront community on the Sunshine Coast. The company was formed when the Alberta Mining Corporation (AMC) purchased the Lord Jim’s property in Halfmoon Bay and Whittakers. Rockwater Properties is a partnership between hotelier, Kevin Toth, former general manager of Fairmount’s Chateau Whistler, Hotel Macdonald, and Jasper Park Lodge, and Peter Ruben, chair of Alberta Mining Corporation (AMC). AMC is a Calgary-based company founded in 1948 that pioneered the development of the natural resources industry in Alberta and built the Province’s first pulp mill. AMC’s principal business is now in commercial and industrial real estate development. Rockwater Properties and Whittakers represent a strategic new direction for AMC into resort residential development.

Home owners will also have an un-paralleled service opportunity with Rockwater Concierge, a resort concierge service operated out of Rockwater Secret Cove Resort, that includes property management, rental management, security and service checks, house cleaning, and grocery, laundry, and catering services. Regular scheduled float plane service is offered by two independent carriers to Rockwater Secret Cove, which is minutes away from Whittakers and float plane service directly to the oceanfront community’s marina is being planned.
Whittakers is situated on a peninsula with homes following an outer ridge of the shoreline to maximize over 14 acres and 1000 feet of shoreline waterfront. Its private scenic cove is bounded to the east and west by higher protruding peninsulas ensuring privacy and unobstructed natural scenery. Local zoning regulations permit building within 7.5 meters of the high tide line allowing Whittakers to offer greater proximity to the water. Architectural planning ensures that the surrounding environment of each home will be left in its natural state. In addition, a grove of old growth forest stands at the back of the property along with meadows for recreational activities.
