There is Always an Alternative
Recently at a dinner party the host mentioned that they had planned to make hummus but couldn’t because they didn’t have any tahini. So I mentioned that peanut butter is a great alternative for tahini and since I knew they had children chances were they also had peanut butter. Interestingly, however, everyone seemed quite shocked that peanut butter would work in a hummus recipe instead of tahini. I assured them the finished product would be very tasty and that they might never go back to using tahini. One guest commented “and that is why you’ve got to think outside the box”. You say Demolish, I say Deconstruct
It may just be semantics but it could be the difference between landfilling perfectly good materials and putting them to good use in a new project. These are the issues that were discussed in a forum conjointly hosted by the Clean Calgary Association (CCA) and the Building Operators and Management Association (BOMA). Construction and Demolition (C & D) waste, as it is classified, makes up approximately 20% of the waste entering Calgary landfills, of which 39% is wood.
