Enjoying the Holidays
Holidays used to be simple – a time to share one’s life and earth’s bounty with family and friends. 30 Dalhousie Households adopted by Clean Calgary Association
Waste Wise Community Outreach Program began November 1st in Dalhousie and so far 30 households have come aboard. These households have received their first household waste audit and a beginner lesson in backyard composting. Our goal is to help each family reduce their waste by 30% and by visiting the families we will begin to understand the challenges they face throughout the year. “We wanted to try a different approach with this program by taking the time to build relationships with each family”, explains Karen Morrison, Waste Wise Project Coordinator.
The Master Composters will have the flexibility and support to provide education, resources and mentoring based on the needs of each family. This approach is designed to be more of a partnership – the family commits to Clean Calgary that they will begin composting and Clean Calgary commits to the family that they will provide support to help them reduce waste by 30%.
Waste Wise Community Outreach Program receives generous funding from Alberta Ecotrust, The City of Calgary Waste and Recycling, Grassroots NW, and Shell Environment Fund.
If you have a Dalhousie friend, family or team mate that you feel could benefit from joining Waste Wise please email Karen@cleancalgary.org or call Karen @998 – 8846.
