BC Luxury Development Final Home for Treasure Hunting Adventure Ship
Local Sailor Picks Whittakers to Retire Vessel from Panamanian Treasure-Hunt

Pender Harbour, BC, June 12, 2007 – Whittakers, a luxury oceanfront community on the Sunshine Coast in Pender Harbour, will be the final home port of Caledonia II, a 47 foot treasure hunting ship that was recently used to solve one of the world’s great lost treasure mysteries. While conducting tests of the ships state of the art marine magnetometer equipment, the Caledonia II and its crew discovered what is believed to be the Maurepas, a sunken treasure ship sought after by treasure hunters for more than 300 years and buried under 10 feet of silt and sand off the coast of Panama. Loaded with what is estimated today to be over $60 million worth of gold and silver, this French privateer was lost at sea on Christmas Eve in 1698 as it attempted to leave a Scottish colony, ravaged by disease and armed Spanish attacks.

Buyers of Whittakers properties will now be a part of maritime history when the Caledonia II finally rests in its safe and protected ocean harbour, serving as a celebration of Whittakers romantic marine lifestyle, and a symbol of the calibre of sailing available to Whittakers property buyers. Whittakers is a traditional waterfront community with a deep-water marina, and a slip for each home owner, providing a social gathering spot and access to the calm, meditative waters of Pender Harbour.

With over 50% of the architect-designed oceanfront homes now sold, ranging from $875,000 to $1.75 million, interest in the remaining Whittakers properties is expected to increase significantly with the arrival of the Caledonia II later this year. In addition to its low bank, waterfront homes surrounded by a peaceful and protected bay, Whittakers residents will now have the exclusive privilege of living in the midst of one of the world’s great expeditionary ships.

When asked, why Whittakers, Caledonia captain and Whittakers resident Peter Ruben, says “when it comes to sailing and an appreciation of life on the water, Whittakers is as good as it gets”. Ruben should know. An experienced sailor who spent 3 ½ years sailing around the world and who is both the developer and a resident of Whittakers, Ruben is ecstatic about the opportunities Whittakers offers to those who desire to experience life on the water at its best. “As a professional sailor and lover of the ocean first, and a developer second, I didn’t choose Whittakers, Whittakers chose me. For those who love to experience the water, its location in this majestic and serene habour is unparalleled along the B.C. Sunshine Coast”!

Jutting slightly out into the harbour where the Caledonia will rest, this exclusive and private water front community lined by old-growth forest is now selling its remaining peninsula properties, with finished homes ranging from $875,000 to $1.75 million. Following an outer ridge of the shoreline to maximize the over 14 acres and 1000 feet of waterfront shoreline, each site has approximately 50 feet of frontage and stunning views of Pender Harbour and the ocean. Each home at Whittakers is custom designed to fit the area’s unique topography and follow two architectural design styles, West Coast Arts and Crafts and a more modern West Coast Contemporary design.

As well, Whittakers home owners are offered an unparalleled service opportunity with Rockwater Concierge, an optional resort concierge service operated out of Rockwater Secret Cove Resort, that includes property management, rental management, security and service checks, house cleaning, and grocery, laundry, and catering services.

Whittakers is located 30 minutes north of Sechelt in Pender Harbour, which is only 2.5 hours away from Vancouver (by car) and the Calgary airport (by plane). Whittakers can be reached via a 40 minute Ferry from North Vancouver to Langdale and 70 minutes to the Whittakers’ site, or by float plane, as regularly scheduled flights will fly from Vancouver to the Whittakers’ dock or to Rockwater Secret Cove.
