Environment Week

Environment Week
May 31 – June 6, 2009

Environment Week is a Canada wide event that coincides with World Environment Day. It’s a time for all Canadians to reflect on environmental issues facing our planet and to take initiatives to reduce their impact on our world.  If you’re not already working towards building a greener future, Environment Week is the perfect time to start thinking globally and acting locally. Clean Calgary Association would like to help all Calgarians celebrate Environment Week by providing opportunities for action at work, school and in homes.

2009 Clean Calgary Association Annual General Meeting
We were very pleased to spend a special evening with a large crowd of Clean Calgary Association members, volunteers, and guests on April 15th. Thank you to Rob Avis, Jacqueline Puff, and Alderman Brian Pincott for speaking about the emergence and need for community gardens, growing food locally, and permaculture. They provided three powerful and meaningful perspectives on issues that are critical to Calgarians. We enjoyed some delicious locally grown food from Forage, had the opportunity to recognise the enormous contributions made by our volunteers and we were delighted to welcome 19 new members the same evening.

 Ask Ashley

Q:

Dearest Ashley,

Are mattresses in Canada doused in flame retardants, as they are in the United States? What exactly is the best mattress available?

Curiously,

Lindsay

2009 Rain Barrel Sale
Calgarians purchased 1445 rain barrels from Clean Calgary Association on April 25th 2009! Congratulations to the more than 1000 Calgary households that are now starting collecting rain water and to the many others who invested in their second or third barrel. Rain water collection decreases our collective impact on the precious water system and is much better for plants.  Special thanks to the many dedicated Clean Calgary Association volunteers who helped us (early in) the morning and throughout the sale at four different location. We couldn't do the sale without you. We would also like to acknowledge the tremendous support provided to the rain barrel sale by the wonderful team at City of Calgary Water Services. Thank you!
