Chamber Committees gearing up for another exciting season
October 2, 2009
Great guest speakers that discuss cutting edge topics, the chance to network with key industry leaders and government decision-makers, and the opportunity to develop policy that improves the business environment, are a few of the reasons why our volunteers join and stay as committee members.
“I participate to make a difference in the community and to engage in initiatives with other leaders that want to make a difference as well,” says Suzanne Boss, Co-Chair of the Chamber’s Business and the Arts Committee and Vice-President of Insight Council, which offers peer advisory and leadership coaching for CEOs. “The Chamber is a hub for making meaningful connections and for hosting informative discussions about how to address some of the most pressing business issues and improve our quality of life.”
The Chamber’s eight standing committees are kicking off the fall season and developing innovative solutions on important topics such as weathering the current economic storm, climate change approaches, oil & gas competitiveness, health care reform, tax competitiveness, strengthening the workforce and transportation.
“Committees are the lifeblood of the Chamber,” says Geoff Pradella, Vice-President of Public & Government Affairs with the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. “The ideas and energy that our volunteers contribute is a major reason for our success as a leading business advocate.”
Recent committee successes include advocacy strategies to improve tax competitiveness in the municipal, provincial and federal budgets, hosting an Aboriginal Workforce Symposium to connect business with the largest untapped source of talent, and influencing climate change policy to encourage technological development in Alberta.
