Permaculture is a system for designing sustainable human habitat.
In a world of fluctuating food and energy costs, permaculture design offers a positive sustainable way forward.
If you are interested in permaculture, but not sure where to start, this 16-hour course will offer information and hands-on experience and cover the basics of permaculture design. Whether your interest is gardening, farming, planning, building homes, community work, economic regeneration, business or green lifestyles, the application of permaculture principles empowers you to make a positive contribution towards a sustainable future.
When you buy your products from small local businesses, you get to know where those products are coming from, the conditions in which they were made, and the people who make them. You strengthen your own local economy, help to tighten the community, and reduce impact on the environment. The products don’t have long distances to travel between producer and consumer, so there aren’t large amounts of greenhouse gases being emitted. Green Calgary EcoStore proudly supports small businesses in
Calgary and area, such as The Barrelman Inc., an eco-wise business created and operated by Dirk and Nanja Struck which makes good (re)use of food-grade plastic barrels by retrofitting them into rain barrels.
Congratulations to Office Manager Jessica Duchin on the birth of her son, Finn, and likewise to Executive Director Natalie Odd on the birth of her son, Sebastian, on April 27th. Finn entered the world with crazy blond hair, and Sebastian with dark. Both boys have green sensibilities.

Q:
I have a relatively new roof and the usual granular material in runoff is obvious. That settles out, of course, but it makes me wonder about other things added after the rain lands. Are chemicals from roofing carried into rain barrels collecting rain water? I would appreciate any information you can give me.
