New policy and speaker series will contribute ideas to national energy and climate change policy development

Today the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and the Canada West Foundation launched the Changing The Climate policy and speaker series. The initiative will host experts to explore key energy and climate change topics, culminating in a major policy paper with strategic recommendations. T. Boone Pickens headlines the speaker line-up.

“Our country needs a vision of energy and climate change that recognizes the interdependency of Canadian and U.S. energy systems, encourages continuous improvement of environmental performance, and drives technology development,” said Geoff Pradella, Vice-President of Public and Government Affairs with the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. “This vision should not adversely affect North American trade relations or create regional disparities.”

CN confirms Calgary as a major logistics hub with new rail yard

Calgary is at the heart of the country’s transportation action, said new CN President & CEO Claude Mongeau during a keynote address to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. It was Mongeau’s first public speech since taking the helm at CN in January.

“Calgary is growing faster than any other large city in Canada,” said Mongeau at the May 4 lunch. “It’s at the heart of Western Canada’s vibrant economy. It’s also a strategic hub for intermodal transportation and a long-term railway town.”

Changing The Climate initiative launched with Lochman event

The Calgary Chamber of Commerce and Canada West Foundation kicked off the Changing The Climate policy and event series with Laura Lochman, Consul General of the United States for Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories. Changing The Climate aims to contribute ideas for national energy and climate change policy development.

“The bottom line is that we are truly a North American energy market,” said Lochman at the Chamber breakfast event on May 10. “And Canada is our most secure and most reliable foreign source of energy in the world.”
